Excessive Sweat Disorder
Excessive sweat disorder can be a severely dispiriting problem. If
you shake the hand of a person with hyperhidrosis—the technical term for
excessive sweat disorder—his or her hand could be as wet as if it was
running under a faucet. The sweating problem can affect all areas of a
person’s life. Due to such sweating disorder, he or she may never want
to shake a person’s hand, which severely limits both work and social
relationships.
It is not uncommon for people with excessive sweat disorder to combine
both physiological and psychological remedies to the sweating problem.
Though severe sweating disorder cannot be cured outright through therapy
it may be necessary for two reasons. Therapy can help with some of the
nervousness that leads to blushing or sweating problems. Keep in mind
that no amount of therapy can completely cure excessive sweat disorder
as sweating disorder is primarily a physiological problem.
Therapy can help the patients of excessive sweat disorder deal with the
results of the sweating problem, if not the symptoms. Excessive sweat
disorder can lead to extreme self-consciousness and a low self-esteem.
So even if you cure sweating problem via surgery or another method,
patients may still have lingering problems with self-esteem. If you cure
the physiological aspect of sweating problem, this does not mean the
psychological effects of the excessive sweat disorder have been
eradicated as well.
If you suffer from excessive sweat disorder, you should find a way to
control the sweating problem as soon as possible. The solution to
sweating disorder should be two-fold. Too often, people suffering from
excessive sweat disorder tackle one problem but not the other. Once the
physical problem is fixed, patients don’t deal with the psychological
impact of sweating problem, or vice versa.
If you are getting surgery for excessive sweat disorder, ask your ETS
surgeon about a therapist to cure the psychological prospect of the
sweating problem as well. Ideally, you will find a therapist who has
other patients who have suffered from excessive sweat disorder. Therapy
may not necessarily be a long-lasting solution for sweating disorder,
but when therapy and surgery are combined together, it can lead to
lasting results. In the worst types of excessive sweat disorder, it is a
good idea to combine both methods of treatment.
